Vintage-Inspired Maryland Backyard Wedding | Real Wedding

There is something special about having your wedding at your family home. When Ellie and Oliver reached out to me and told me their vision for a vintage garden party wedding at Ellie’s childhood home, I was absolutely in love with the idea and knew we had to come up with something extra special for such a meaningful wedding.

If we’re just meeting for the first time, my name is Lourdes and I’m a professional wedding stationer based in central Pennsylvania. I had the pleasure of working with a close friend of my husband for this particular wedding invitation suite. Let’s dive into the details!

The Vision

Ellie sent me a copy of their save the date card and in our initial conversation mentioned she wanted to lean heavily on bright flowers with a whimsical feel. They had plans for mis-matched, thrifted, vintage flatware and decor and wanted their wedding to feel like a garden party with their nearest and dearest.

Their primary wedding color was a dark forest green with hints of pink. While they were leaning into the vintage theme, they still wanted some modern elements to go along with it.

You can see some example images from Pinterest that Ellie sent me along with her Design Questionnaire.

The Stationery

Wedding invitation insert card with rsvp information and other details. Watercolor flowers on the back highlight the vintage theme of the wedding.

When I heard floral elements, I knew I wanted to incorporate these beautiful watercolor flowers you see on the invitation. This was the starting point and everything kind of grew from there (pun totally intended!). We opted for a modern serif font for the bulk of the invitations, but added a touch of whimsy with the script font as an accent font. One special touch we added was a wreath monogram at the top of their invitations. You’ll see how we tied this into other parts of the suite in a minute. Overall we kept the invitation light and airy so as not to overwhelm the guests when they first open the envelope.

Because Ellie and Oliver were opting for online only RSVPs, their insert card was a combination of a details card and RSVP information card. For this card, we leaned heavily on their dark green wedding color. The RSVP card was flood printed with a deep emerald green. We added some light botanical elements on the front of the card to frame the information and on the back, we brought back those watercolor floral elements.

Forest green wax seal with wedding monogram

In addition to their invitation and details card, Ellie and Oliver selected a wax seal upgrade, which I think matched perfectly with their vintage theme. We used the same monogram from their invitation for their Sequoia green wax seals. This was one more way to bring in the dark green wedding color to their suite.

The final touch was on the envelope itself. We started with a natural white envelope but then added some botanical elements on the front and the couples wreath monogram on the back flap. I really think these elements tied together the whole suite and created a cohesive look from the minute the guests saw the envelope in their mailbox.
